Cultural Exchange- 3,4,5

Part3

Part 4

Part 5

Buckle your seatbelts everybody, I think I hit on a streak of very well produced documentaries on various martial arts.
Part three has some very, very nice Bagua and each episode shows excellent form and application of internal martial arts.
Please view part 1 and 2 in the pervious post first...

Thanks for posting those videos. I've never seen them before, but still shots from that show, "The Way of the Warrior" were included in a book of the same name. The book was also published under the name, "The Fighting Arts."

It's a great overview of the Asian martial arts.

I'm glad to finally see the video.

Thanks H2H,
I didn't know about the book, and just came across the video.
Man I would sure have liked to have an opportunity to train with That master, what a wealth of knowledge!
I appreciate you checking in, I tip a beer to you my friend.

Just wondering, where does the internal energy come from?

Hey DR,

Check out the book at http://www.amazon.com/Way-Warrior-Howard-Reid/dp/158567513X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-5351264-6218537?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177334194&sr=8-1

Like I said, It's a good overview of the Asian fighting arts and it's very beautifully illustrated.

And hi ta2urnfs.

Saying where internal energy comes from is as difficult as defining it. To me, chi, ki, etc., can refer to any number of functions of the nervous, circulatory, musculo-skeletal and respiratory systems, as well as the functions of your own mind.

As a practicing Christian, I'm constantly having to reassure my fellow Christians that it is not sorcery. While internal martial arts masters and yogis can perform some amazing feats, there are limits to what a human mind and body are capable.

Through proper training and the right mindset, we can push those limits, there is nothing we can do to exceed those limits.

That's just my $.02.

H2H, Thanks for the book link.
Ta2urnfs:
I think the west could explain internal energy or Chi as bio-electrical processes in a sensitized body. Internal arts are different than somthing like trancendental meditation, which seeks to seperate the mind and self (to "trancend") but is more about Pschyophysical integration.
Sometimes after an intense practice I feel something like a shiver up my spine, or heat in my hands and such. Hope this makes sense.
